Simple Feng Shui Tips for the Home

Part of an ancient Chinese art and science, feng shui is basically concerned with the harmonious relationship between man and his environment. It is based on a Taoist idea that nature is alive and has energy in different forms.

Many modern aficionados assert that feng shui is the practice of arranging objects, such as in the home, to help attract positive energy. The following are a few basic feng shui tips for the home:

1. A marble table in the house is not good for the career since it attracts work stress. A red sofa set too is often said to give rise to work obstacles and troubles. Replace that marble table with a wooden one, and that red sofa with any other color.

2. Have enough lighting in the rooms because light is an important source of energy. In dull spaces where natural light from the window is limited, paint the walls with yellow, which represents sunlight.

3. The bed should be placed next to a wall. You must not also sleep in a way where your feet are pointed towards the door, as this has negative connotation. A mirror where you can see yourself in as you are lying in bed has to be removed, or covered with a blanket as you sleep.

4. The doorway should not be obstructed with anything, such as shoes and other items. A clear entrance allows the positive energy to freely enter the room. It is also advised that the seating is so arranged that anyone inside the room will be able to see the door.

5. Placing mirrors in the room help positive energy dart through the area. They amplify the amount of light inside the room. Mirrors also make the room appear much larger than it actually is, giving a cozy vibe.

6. Plants represent nature, and having your self surrounded by them evokes the healing and nurturing vibrations of nature right into your room. However, dying or dead plants attract negative energy, so take them out immediately.

7. Make sure that there is no refrigerator, washing machine, dishwasher and even sink placed opposite the stove. Fire and water clash; this might stir up negative energies that may cause the family members to have disagreements with one another.

8. Never allow your children to sleep on the floor because it may cause them to get sick often. Ideally, positive energy flowing underneath the bed is beneficial. So it is advised for your children to sleep in beds with space beneath them. However, it is not recommended for them to use double bunk beds because the child sleeping beneath will get sickly.

9. The flowing of positive energy is generally interrupted by disorder or clutter in the room. Positive energy should be allowed to flow freely in the room, and from one space to the other. Clutter has to be removed especially from the center of your house, which is considered the heart of the house.

10. Keep your bathroom clean and the bathroom door closed at all times since you don't want the negative energy inside it flow outside. You might also want to close all doors in the home as you sleep as it helps provide health domestic relationships and promotes health.

For beginners, feng shui does not have to mean using particular tools to come up with a harmonious home. Sticking to the basic aspects is enough to attract the right energies into your home.

What Size Of Bed Is Good For You?

Are you shopping for a new bed for your bedroom? Are you confused with just what size of bed you should get? Worry not because you are not alone in this. Not everyone knows the difference between a single bed and a double bed, as well as the difference between a queen-sized bed and a king-sized bed. Not even furniture store attendants are well aware of the differences.

The size of your bed, however, is crucial to the quality of sleep that you will be getting. So, it is important for you to get the bed size that is just perfect for you as well as for your partner if you are not sleeping alone.

Here is a rough guide to bed sizes.

* Singles. Single beds are also known as twin beds or bunk beds. They are often placed for use in children's rooms, in multiple use guestrooms and in dorm rooms. A typical single bed is 39 inches wide and 75 inches long; it is ideal for small bedrooms.

The great thing about single beds is that you will not find it difficult to find sheets for them, because sheets for single beds are the ones most available in furniture and department stores. Single beds are also usually fitted with trundle beds that you can pull out if you have a guest sleeping over.

The problem with single beds, however, is that they are mostly too short to accommodate adults. If you really want a single bed but you feel that it would be too short for you, you can opt to buy an extra long single bed, which is five more inches on the standard-sized single bed. Buying the appropriate-sized sheets for this length of bed, on the other hand, can pose a different challenge.

* Doubles. If you are sharing your bed with someone and he or she does not mind snuggling close to you every night, or if you are sleeping alone and you just want a big space to sleep in, then a double bed is a good option for you. A double bed, also known as a full bed, is a perfect fit for guestrooms and smaller master bedrooms. The size of a double bed is 54 inches by 75 inches.

But while size may make the double bed perfect for smaller master bedrooms, it can be a problem for people whose height requires them to sleep in a longer bed. It may also be uncomfortable to be shared by two people who are not used to sleeping closely side-by-side with someone else.

* Queens. With a size of 60 inches by 80 inches, a queen-sized bed is six inches wider and five inches longer than your standard double bed. It is definitely big enough for a couple to sleep comfortably next to each other, and yet small enough to allow for some snuggling and cozy companionship. Just like double beds, the queen-sized bed is a very nice fit in guestrooms and smaller master bedrooms.

Some people may still find the queen-sized bed too narrow or too short for their needs. For people who do find the standard queen-sized bed still too small for them, there is the Olympic Queen size ⤓ a few inches wider and longer than your regular queen, but still smaller than the king-sized bed.

* Kings. There are actually two kinds of king-sized beds. One is called the eastern king or the standard king, while the other is referred to as the western king or the Californian king. What is the difference between these two?

The eastern king is 76 inches wide and 80 inches long ⤓ 16 inches wider than a standard queen-sized bed but just as long. It is actually the biggest and widest bed size available in department stores. With a bed that big, you can definitely sleep in comfort even if you are sleeping beside another person.

A standard king-sized bed may be prized for its size, but it is also its size that can make it quite impractical to buy. It is suited only to big bedrooms, naturally because of its size, and it would be quite hard to move a bed of this size around. Also, the standard king-sized bed may be too short for tall adults.

If you want a king-sized bed but the length of the bed is your concern, go ahead and choose the California king-sized bed. The western king may be a little narrower than the eastern king, but what it lacks for width it definitely makes up for length. The western king comes in a size of 72 inches by 84 inches. Again, just like its eastern counterpart, the California king can be a hassle to move around.

The size of the sleeping space matters a lot when it comes to having a good night⤙s sleep. So, whenever you are in the lookout for a new bed, always pick the one that is the right size that you need.

How To Find The Best Loft Beds For Kids

In buying furniture for your childrens' bedroom, the first consideration is safety – second is orderliness. A loft bed can offer both, but you need to be careful in choosing onefor for kids' sake. The best way to select a loft bed is to examine one that's already assembled. Place your hands on the top bunk and then try to shake the entire assembly. This will give you an idea of the sturdiness of the bed's construction. If it's wobbly or otherewise poorly made, tell the store manager or owner about the safety hazard – you'll eliminate the possibility of your family suffering an accident and will also make the shop owner more aware of the quality of the products they're selling.

If you were to order, say, two loft beds, you'd want to test both for safety before you actually purchased them. If you order online, however, you can't test the loft beds until they are delivered to your home. If you are unsatisfied with the safety of beds purchased online, immediately inform your online furniture dealer about the problem. There are warranties that apply to online orders, and you should have no problem getting a replacement.

Another important thing to keep in mind is the manufacturer's weight recommendation for loft bed's capacity and limit. Be sure that you know how much your kids weigh before you go out and shop for loft beds. This way, you'll be able to buy lbeds that can actually support their weight. It's always better to buy high-capacity loft beds since your kids are sure to increase in weight as they grow. It's also very important to consider the age of your kids/ Make sure that they're at an age where they move around a lot in their sleep – you wouldn;t want them to fall out of the bed in the middle of the night. Likewise, be sure to tell the manufacturer about the age of your children, as there are additional safety features installed for very young kids. Never assume that all loft beds are created the same.

If you prefer to buy loft beds made from tubular metal, be sure to check their structural integrity. They may look cool, but many are not very well built Make sure to check if the set is sturdy. There are various designs and colors to choose from, so you'll be able to match the loft bed with whatever color theme is in your children's bedroom.

Another thing to consider is the difficulty involved in assembling the loft beds, since they won't be delivered fully assembled. Before you place an order, ask whether the furniture shop has personnel that will take care of the bed's assembly when it's delivered – some stores offer this service.
